hope for best

I hope that this "Symposium" goes well or I get a few people to attend it. It is a little late to plan, but worth a shot.

Anyway, Buffalo won last night in the NHL's eastern conference finals to force a game 7 in NASCAR-land. Sorry Canes fans, that's what I call Carolina.

Miami will win the East. West is up for grabs. Rooting for Dallas, but Phoenix may win. Only thing is Phoenix has gone 7 in every round. That catches up with a team. Not to mention the overtimes they've played.

Single agenda

I hope to arrange a singles symposium in West Rogers Park over Shavuot.

On the agenda will be:
1) disconnected-ness of singles.
2) doing something together such as bowling, melava malka, etc.

Basically, I want to enjoy West Rogers Park and view the singles as allies or friends, not enemies. I shouldn't have to go to Lakeview in order to talk to women.

Let's see how it goes.

Thanks,

Josh

two things

One: My thoughts on the immigration bill and state of affairs in Washington is this: We have Republicanism, which is personified by the Senate and White House, whose principle is to stay in power at all costs, conservative principles be damned. That's why we'll get a compromise bill out of Congress, because no matter what the House wants, the Senate and Bush are determined to grant amnesty to get big business cheap labor.

A good book to read on this subject is Impostor, How Bush betrayed the Conservative Revolution by Bruce Bartlett.

As far as what I will do in November. I will vote against Schawkowsky and for a Conservative or Libertarian for Governor. Topinka is a RINO. I'd rather vote for Zell Miller, a DINO.

RINO (Republican in Name Only, country clubber).
DINO (Democrat in Name Only, country music supporter).

Cubs are shrubs

The Chicago Cubs are shrubs. They have lost 18 of their last 22 and just got swept by the Marlins. Why Dusty and Hendry are not in jeopardy of losing their jobs is because the Cubs act like Small-town teams instead of a big city. In New York, the manager would be canned today.

There is a solution, it's called Lou Piniella. You can even bring in Woodward if you like to be the GM.

Also I think that the Oilers will win the Stanley Cup. Assuming they finish off the Ducks tonight or Saturday night, they should be in good shape for the finals.

Too bad ESPN decided not to use Kevin Colabro for the West Finals. Instead they're using Mike Tirico. Colabro is worthy of this assignment. He worked the West Finals last year when San Antonio beat Phoenix in five games.

As long as either the Heat or Mavs get into the Finals, that's good enough for me.

NBA boring, try NHL and NASCAR instead

After listening to the last 4 minutes of the worst Game 7 in quite some time, I think that I am going to give up on the NBA and try the NHL and NASCAR instead.

There should be consequences for the NBA allowing a boring garbage team like the Detroit Pistons succeeding all the freaking time. Maybe strip the Pistons of their first round draft pick. 79-61 is a college score where I come from. I have no faith in either the Clips or Mavs to win in Phoenix or San Antonio.

Go Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart. Race away in Talladega or wherever NASCAR is this Memorial Day Weekend.

Three cheers to Dwayne Roloson and the Edmonton Oilers for taking the first two games of the Western Conference Finals in Anaheim.

Colabro and Tait

Kevin Colabro and Joe Tait are the two most underrated NBA broadcasters today.

I want to her more of them and put them into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Tait hopefully will get the recognition he deserves if the Cavs can make a trip to the Finals.

Joe Tait is the Cleveland Cavalier's voice on WTAM, AM 1100. He calls Lebron's games.

By the way a shout out and thumbs up to Tom Hamilton of WTAM for his performance on calling Indians' games.

Kevin Colabro works for the Seattle Sonics (AM 950 KJR) and also for ESPN Radio. Finally ESPN Radio got a good non-Eastern announcer.

Cavs

Well the Cavs won game 5 after being down 0-2. Lebron had 32 and 5 assists tonight. Sorry Steve, Lebron is the REAL MVP.

Anyway, in 3 weeks I start a patent course at John Marshall Law School.

Other things:

Yankees are back after winning a miraculous game 14-13 last night and 4-3 tonight.

Sports stuff

One: Good job by the Devils winning yesterday afternoon to extend their Series with the Hurricanes. Maybe they can be like the Red Sox of 2004 and erase a 3-0 deficit.

Two: Memo to ESPN Radio, please stop using Jim Durham and Jack Ramsay for your NBA broadcasts. They are really really ordinary broadcasters. Kevin Calabaro and Will Perdue are better.

Kevin Calabaro is the Seattle Supersonics broadcaster. He is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Also Ozzie Guillen is fun to listen to when he's annoyed. It was interesting listening to John Kinkade criticize him for swearing and ripping the umps. How many managers do that? If more of them did that, their audio sound bites would be all over ESPN, Fox Sports, etc.

He's just another liberal sports wag from the Northeast. I want Mark Madden of Pittsburgh back on the air.

Piazza with another CLUTCH home run yesterday against the Cubs in the 9th.

ESPN 1000 in trouble

With the defection of the Bulls to either 670 the Score or 720 WGN, ESPN 1000 Radio is in trouble. Why? They no longer have games to air on their radio station except for UIC and Notre Dame basketball. Hardly big ratings winners. They lost the White Sox to 670 which is hard to do. 670 is a LOUSY station. Let's put it this way: I'd rather listen to ESPN Milwaukee, 1290 WAUK, than 670.

Also, since when did Sean Salisbury become a gifted talk show host? I don't like Silvy and Carmen, but Salisbury. Is he going to not do football anymore?

Writers who should have their votes revoked

Every NBA writer who voted for Steve Nash for the MVP is not eligible to comment on basketball and should have their vote for MVP revoked. Steve Nash is a nice player but NOT an MVP. Besides his team was good last year so the argument that he turned his team around doesn't apply.

These writers are either racist or employing a double standard. Why? In 2002, Jason Kidd tunred around the New Jersey Nets froma 29 win team to a 52 win team and led his team to the NBA Finals. But I guess if you're a black point guard, you don't get as much credit as a white point guard. Image has as much to do with MVP voting as anything else.

I propose that the MVP or MOP be split among writers and players and coaches/GM's.

Writers want guys who give them good quotes. Kobe's image is a bit of a problem, I admit. But if voting for Kobe is anathema because his team was only 44-38 then why shouldn't they have voted for Lebron James. I guess Lebron James should have played two years at UConn or Ohio State to fit in with the good old boy writer network.

AL and NIL Central rule

Look at the standings this morning in Major League Baseball. The White Sox were 18-7 (before losing to Cleveland today). Detroit was 17-9. Cincinnati was 18-8, St. Louis was 17-9 and Houston was also good as were the Cubs and Brewers.
Take that ISBN!

Eastern Seaboard Programming Network, although the Indians hosted the SNAGGED (Sunday Night Game of the Week). This Sunday is SF-Philly and on Mother's Day is Chicago-Minnesota in the Homerdome in downtown Minneapolis.

a good step

Today I saw an apartment in Lakeview, actually two, one one bedroom (needs some work) and a studio. After seeing the studio apartment, I have concluded that I need a one bedroom to live in Lakeview (or in that building).

It was good to see. Yesterday's appointment didn't work out.

Lakers and Bulls won, Lakers are up 3-1 on the Suns and the Bulls and Heat are tied 2-2. I have said this for a few months now, Miami is NOT going to win the East. Their best chance was last year and they blew it (for whatever reason).

Detroit will get the winner of the Wizards and Cavs. If I were a Piston fan (I know one on Frumster.com) I would root for Cleveland. Washington has more experience and a more diverse offense.

Clips-Lakers will be good for ABC's ratings. Four letters, K-O-B-E!!!!!!!!!

M's are team schizo. They need a shrink. They lose to Detroit but beat Chicago and Baltimore in series. Chicago's in first place. They just swept the Angels and guess who's in first in the AL West? Tex-ASS! The softball team is in first with a 13-12 record.
