The San Antonio Spurs are the teacher's pet of the NBA. They do things "right" and they play in a "red" or less urban state. Tim Duncan is the guy who the league office wants to sell to casual fans in more rural areas. Same with the Detroit Red Wings, they're Bettman's pet student.
If he can't sell casual hockey fans on the New York Rangers, then the Wings are the next best thing.

Let me know if you want to borrow the lawyer book. I bought it but haven't had a chance to actually read it yet.
