Update

Well, I have started looking for apartments in Lakeview, I have to make some calls today. Maybe I can move there by June 1st or shortly thereafter.

Also, sports-wise I am a little disinterested in stuff. I know the Bulls are in the playoffs but I am not excited. Second rounds of the NBA and NHL playoffs are more interesting to me.

Also, I think a lot of the sports talk show hosts and sports media in Chicago are quite provincial. What works here and St. Louis and in Milwaukee, doesn't work back East. That's why I don't care to listen to the Score or 1000 more than necessary.

White Sox radio team of Farmer and Singleton isn't interesting and Hughes and Santo are subpar broadcasters and Santo has GOT TO GO! He doesn't have it anymore.

Dave Otto is a better choice for the Cubs radio booth.

By the way, memo to Howard Lincoln and the Seattle Front Office, PLEASE GET RID OF RON FAIRLY AND DAVE VALLE! They're terrible and Valle was lucky that the Mariners didn't cut him after he hit .194 in 1991.

PIC of me

Today's musings

One: There are two REAL candidates for the 2006 NBA MVP Award, Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. Lebron averaged over 30 points a game and over 5 boards and dishes (rebounds and assists) a game. Plus the Cavs won 50 games and got home court in the first round which meets the qualifications of the Mike Francesa's of the world voting for the MVP.

Two: Eddie Guardado is about a week or two from losing the closer's job in Seattle. He has blown three games in a week, one in Boston and two at home, one against Texas and last night against Chicago.

Three: On the political front, we need to suspend the federal and state gas taxes for 6 months to lower the price of gasoline.

Random sports stuff

One: If Northwestern University wants to be taken seriously athletically, they need to fire Bill Carmody NOW and hire a winning assistant from Michigan State or Illinois.

Two: Gary Bettman is a TERRIBLE commissioner and Bill Wirtz, owner of the Chicago BlackHawks, is the worst owner of a professional sports team and should be forced to sell the team.

Three: The White Sox are not getting a lot of play nationally. I guess ESPN thinks that the Yankees and Red Sox are the only AL teams worth covering.

back blogging

Well guys, I am back blogging. My Passover (Pesach) was very nice. I spent it in Seattle for the first part and the second part in Chicago.

The weather in Seattle was cloudy as usual, which was a little unfortunate. I didn't have a chance to go to the Loop, maybe next time.

The NBA playoffs start tomorrow as do the NHL playoffs. I have a little interest in the Bulls and Lakers and none in the NHL.

Too bad that the Wolves missed the AHL playoffs. But for those who want to see playoff hockey, head to Milwaukee or Iowa to see them play.

Stuff

Well the Florida Gators won the title on Monday beating UCLA by 16. Good for them.

By the way, Bobby Gonzalez, one of my favorite coaches, has accepted the head coaching job at Seton Hall. Good for him. I wish Orr success at other places. He'll get another chance.

After a loss on Monday, the Seattle Mariners have won three in a row and are gasp!!! in first place. Well the better they do, the better the chances of Bavasi hanging onto his job. If he goes, the M's should hire one of Kenny Williams' assistants from the South Side. I like him more than Mr. Moneyball, Billy Beane.

Oh I don't devote a lot of time to hockey, but Jaromir Jagr gets the good sportsmanship award for this week. Last night, a ref awarded him a goal which would have broken the Rangers single season record for most goals in a season. He went over to the ref and said that he was nowhere near the puck so he shouldn't get credit for it. The Phil Mushnicks and Bob Costases of the world must be schepping nachas.

See ya in two weeks.

open letter to "frum single women" in Chicago

Dear Frum Single Women in West Rogers Park:

My name is Joshua Normand. Perhaps you know me in person or at certain shuls in West Rogers Park.

Recently I have made a decision that some may consider "controversial" which is to relocate after Pesach to Lakeview.

The main reason is that the people there (male and female) are more willing to meet with you and talk to you. Not everyone can be one's best friend or Husband. However, I have very little sympathy for you six (or more) because you don't do much to solve your problem besides contacting SimchaLink and one or two other shadchanim. Maybe some of you should at least consider Lakeview if Rogers isn't working out.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Josh

Back blogging again

I am back blogging again. I was busy with other stuff and won't return to full-time blogging until April 24th or so (after Pesach or Passover).

Wednesday night a friend and I went to Rosemont to see a minor league hockey game between the Chicago Wolves and San Antonio Rampage. The Wolves won 7-3. They scored five goals in the second period to take a 6-0 lead, four of those goals were scored in a span of 2 minutes. The rest of the game was a little sloppy but Wolves fans will take the win. They have won 7 in a row to make a final playoff push in the Western Conference of the AHL.

Thursday morning I had an interview with an insurance defense firm. Friday I was busy and went to Lakeview again for shabat with my cousins. It was really nice and I met a lot of nice people (both male and female). The more I am there the more comfortable I am and the more I realize this is where I want to be.

Final 4 stuff: Had I made the correct picks LSU would have been my "PC" choice for tonight's game. But they lost so UCLA is the choice because California is a blue state and Florida conjures up thoughts of Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris, etc.

Sox won last night despite a three hour rain delay (not a Tom DeLay, ha ha ha!!!). I did not rejoin the game as I was tired. It wouldn't be a bad idea for the Sox and Cubs to consider retractable roofs. The Brewers have one.

On this immigration thing: I understand that in the produce and other service industries that Mexicans comprise a good percentage of the work force. However, I would like someone to explain to me how come computer engineers from India, Pakistan, China, Japan, etc. don't have this problem of being "illegal"? Why does America only have this problem with Mexico (besides the fact that they're one of our neighbors)? Wouldn't Canadians want to enter here illegally as well?
